You Bought A Home! Do These Things Next.

Congrats, we’re thrilled for you!! Now that you have bought your house, there’s nothing but a little, invisible list between you and living the dream. While watching too many TikToks can make moving or home decor look like a cinch (thanks a lot, reveal trends), the truth is that moving into a new home - even your dream home - can be a process. And there are going to be quite a few to-do’s before your home starts to truly feel like yours. Here’s our pre-move to do checklist for all the tasks to do before you officially settle in.

Fixing Anything That Needs Fixing

First things first. Go through the home one more time and sort out a list of everything that needs to be fixed. Whether this is a long list or a short list, putting this together asap helps give a clear picture of what needs doing urgently, and what can wait a little longer. Of course, everything should be sorted as soon as possible, but prioritizing depending on what the most urgent issue is the easiest way to tackle it all.

For example, an issue with the roof should obviously come before a cosmetic upgrade as this is one of the most important problems to get fixed as it can compromise the whole home. Prioritizing will make the task list feel smaller -or at least more manageable.

Check For Anything Out Of The Ordinary

Walk through the home with an eye looking for anything that is out of the ordinary. Sound odd? The thing is, there are a lot of things that will look normal, but looking a little closer will alert to an issue. If you had a survey completed before you bought the home, take a look there to start. However, if there isn’t much on there, you should still look for yourself, just to be on the safe side. For example, an issue with wood in the home could be caused by termites, resulting pest control.

Easy Upgrades

Nothing is better than a fresh start - even in your new home. Before you physically move into the house, making a few upgrades will go a long way to make it feel less like a borrowed space and more like your own. Changing out the air filters in the air system, changing the locks, locating all circuit breakers, setting up your security system and smart home devices, and running through any areas of safety concern for your children and perts are all easy things to do to make you feel safe, secure, and comfortable in your new home.

Decorating It Your Way

One of the best parts of buying a home is that you get to decorate it the way that you want. Of course, this comes with time as adding things over the course of the time is often the most authentic way to find your style and to add meaning to your possessions. But getting the basics done including the colors of the walls, the type of flooring and other things along those lines will help set the foundation for the life you build in the home.
