4 Parts of Your Home You're Probably Forgetting to Clean
How clean is your home? On the face of it, most people have regular cleaning tasks they perform each day, doing laundry, washing the dishes, vacuuming, and brushing and mopping floors. All standard cleaning jobs. But they're not the only ones that need doing, and chances are, if you're not a cleaning influencer, you will have parts of your home that go overlooked, or you know you need to clean but don't actually get around to.
If you need help identifying the parts of your home that are missing or need a more thorough deep cleaning, here are some things that people commonly overlook or forget that need cleaning.
Ceiling Fans and Light Fixtures
It's pretty easy to forget anything above eye level, including those dust bunnies accumulating in corners. Ceiling fans, especially, can collect a high amount of dust on the blades, which then, unsurprisingly, gets blown around when they're turned on. Light fittings like chandeliers are also a safe haven for dirt and dust to pile up, and over time, this will dull their shine and make your home feel dirtier than it needs to be. A quick wipe with a duster or microfibre cloth can work wonders every month or so, and not only will it make the fixtures cleaner, but it will also reduce the dust and dirt in the air too.
Behind and Under Appliances
Out of sight, out of mind pops into the head when you think of these areas; if you can't see it, no one else can see it. And while this is true for the most part, appliances can be the cause of much dirt build up in the home due to them not being pulled out and cleaned as often as they should be.
Pulling out your freestanding appliances, if you can even a few times a year, not only reveals just how much is hiding under there but can help you keep your home looking and smelling clean and fresh all the time.
Gutters and Exterior Surfaces
Again, this thing with gutters is above eye level, so you probably don't give them much attention. But the thing is, when gutters work, you don't notice, but the minute they're not, you know about it, and it's a huge problem. Regular gutter cleaning can help avoid problems such as water damage to the property from black spots, cracks, or build-up that shouldn't be there.
On top of this, your exterior surfaces also need to be cleaned regularly, as these can experience a lot of build-up over time too.
Upholstery and Curtains
Be honest, when was the last time you took your curtains down and cleaned them? Everyone washes their bedding regularly, but their curtains not so muhc. But every now and again, take them down and clean them as per the manufacturer's directions.
And then, move on to your upholstery. Your sofa, your cushions, etc, probably don't get cleaned as much as they should, and dirt, allergens, and odours can get trapped in the fibres, leaving them less than clean and fresh. Even steam cleaning can work wonders, especially for freeing trapped odours and killing germs and viruses that might be trapped in the material.
