2020 Mood: Keep It Casual

When it comes to style, casual is the theme of the year. From zoom rooms to bubble hangs to curbside pickups, keep your wardrobe as casual as your commitments.

Business Casual for the Zoom Room

For men, business casual as typically meant smart trousers and a button-down shirt with dress shoes. For women, however, business casual has often had a wider definition that includes tailored pants, blouses, skirts, and casual dresses. In this new era of ours, however, business casual has since expanded to include more smart casual items including well-cut, structured tees, non-distressed denim, and easy, soft knits (that doesn’t include those leggings your boss can’t see on zoom btw). Tip for making a workplace ootd more suitable for a wfh ootd: oversize oversize oversize.

Smart Street Casual For Bubble Hangs

Style has had a major overhaul in the last year for obvious reasons and our attraction to all things comfy doesn’t just stop at the workplace. From after-work zoom drinks to bubble weekend BBQs at the weekend, we’re ditching our over-the-top anything in lieu of flowing fabrics, light weaves, and forgiving stretch. For balance, combine tailored pieces with more relaxed fabrics and cuts. Pair a slouchy sweater with palazzo pants, for example, or skinny jeans with killer heels. 100% cotton graphic t-shirts are also a plus (vintage tees are making a huge comeback btw) and look great paired with an oversized blazer. Mega accessories are another thing that’s fallen by the wayside this season, with dainty, everyday pieces taking the lead. Another pro tip: denim shorts are having a major moment and can be worn dressed up or dressed down - and even styled right into winter. Opt for a longer length for a more versatile, on-trend look.

Sports Luxe for Curbside Pickups

It’s arguable that sportswear is now worn more out of the gym than in it - and for good measure, as a gym is probably the last place we want to be right now (for more than one reason). From yoga pants, leggings, joggers, or shorts, sports luxe one of the comfiest styles out there whether you actually work out or not. Racerback tanks, Tees, crop tops, and hoodies round out the vibe. Or go for head-to-toe matching sweats - a covetable look that’s become not only acceptable in any environment, but even aspirational.

One of the best things about casual clothing is that it actually holds more potential to really make it your own. Focus on fit and fabric when selecting items and go for originality when styling them - and don’t forget the details! A rolled cuff or tucked hem can make all the difference.
