Trick The Kids Into Learning While Staying At Home

Covid-19 or not, one of the trickiest parts about parenting is encouraging your kids to study. And to be fair, we get it. Studying is boring. But also necessary to pass exams and get good grades. But what’s the point of getting good grades if your kids aren’t going to make use of all that information they’re learning?

There are many secrets to getting your child to learn more, but the biggest pivot comes from switching the focus from getting good grades to learning because it’s fun, because they’re curious, and because they’re interested in the subject. So to help you disguise studying with your kids while you’re all cooped up together, here are a couple of tips and tricks that might help make the task a little more fun for everyone involved.

1. Follow your child’s interests

A lot of parents seem to gloss over the fact that their kids probably have interests they don’t know about. Encourage your kiddo’s passion by asking your child about the things they’re interested in and help them develop their interests. This is a great way to bring out your child’s best and will help them realize that being curious and wanting to learn more is a great thing.

2. Gamify your learning

Turning learning into a game isn’t a new concept, but it’s a great way to encourage your kids to have fun while they learn and to also disguise the fact they’re studying. For instance, use screen time wisely and look at apps that turn learning into a video game. Or swap the order and find lessons in games such as counting, spelling, or adding.

3. Test your child by making your own quizzes

Study materials can be predictable and fairly boring. No matter what your child is studying, try and pick up and interest in it as well so you can make your own study materials. For instance, you could design your own Disney trivia game and test your child by framing the questions with Disney-related themes. Alternatively, you could even quiz them about Disney characters and films and try to encourage them to learn the messages from each of these films.

4. Put down the book

There are many different learning styles and you don’t have to sit down with your child, some paper and a book in order to learn. Make use of apps on laptops and desktops, or even smartphones and tablets to help them learn things. Whether you use technology to create tests or if you use apps to help them learn a new language or practise their skills, there are lots of uses for these devices when it comes to learning.

With so many apps to make use of, it’s important to check your internet speed. If your children are using their devices to learn, your internet is an investment in their education. If their devices or the internet is running slow and the apps are slow to load, it could mean your children are easily distracted. It’s worth looking at spectrum internet to ensure you have high speed at home.

Grades shouldn’t be the ultimate goal when it comes to studying. If you can encourage your kids to study because they’re curious and interested in a subject, then you’re definitely on the right track as a parent. Don’t force your kids to study something, especially if they’re not interested in it. Instead, find ways to make it interesting to get them to study on their own accord.
