Moving Is Only A Fresh Start If You Consider These 4 Things

New year, new me? While a new year is definitely inspiring for a fresh start, it’s also no miracle maker. And the truth is that when the clock strikes 12 am on Jan 1, we’re still going to be the same person. But that doesn’t mean it’s not a great source of inspiration for making real changes in our lives that can impact our future.

Real change takes motivation, but also time - and maybe even more importantly, intention. Here are a few strategies that incorporate all three to encourage improving our lives in a real and actionable way.

RESEARCH YOUR LIFE

When we look at what we have done in the past, we can start to take action and decide what we're going to take on first. If we have areas that feel like they have extra friction in our lives, such as frustrations with our relationship or job, concentrating our efforts on the aspects that can reduce that friction can often make the biggest impact on our lives. One way to look at it is as researching our current life so we don't make the same or new mistakes so that we can move forward with clarity.

PICK A PLACE WITH A BIG PICTURE MINDSET

It’s easy to imagine that our lives will change if we could only change or level up our location. But things like remodeled homes or luxury apartments are only as good as the area that surround them.

Finding a place that will help us thrive is not just about accommodation, it’s about finding a place that matches our quality of life and inspires us to be our best selves. If we’re struggling to make the mortgage, it’s pretty clear our quality of life has not actually been improved upon. And if our home is stunning but we really aren’t fans of the neighbors, we run the risk of just swapping out our issues for new ones. Finding a place that supports us in our entirety is so important - far more than just beautiful home.

TYING UP LOOSE ENDS

When we run away from something, we often find that we are just replacing old problems with new ones. But it's also important to remember that a new location can involve taking time to get used to a place. This is also why tying up loose ends is important before we go. Finding our feet in a new space, new year, and new life, is a very difficult process, and we need time to run through anything that could be holding us back.

Preparing for Success

Moving to a whole new location is like venturing into uncharted territory. It may seem hard to get the confidence we need in place, but there are a number of tools at our disposal, including the following:

  • Visualization. Picture the perfect future for yourself, which can help motivate and point you in the right direction.

  • Break down your fears. When you uncover what you are worried about, you can decide if these concerns are realistic.

  • Prioritize self-care. If you want to look after yourself, you've got to make you a priority. And that goes beyond a face mask and a celery juice. Start with mental health, and the rest will fall into place.
