Items in Your Home You Most Likely Forgot To Clean

After a long day of work, we don’t even want to think about cleaning a messy house. We come home, pick up and wipe down what we can, and we’re ready to relax. It’s a completely normal desire after an exhausting day. Sometimes, we find, it’s a good idea to look for items in our homes that we never remember to clean, as they probably need some extra attention. If you’re anything like us when cleaning, here are some items you most likely forgot to clean in your home.

Ceiling Fans

It’s far too easy to let our ceiling fan blades get dusty. However, it’s even easier to regularly clean our ceiling fans, instead of waiting until a thick dust rests on the blades. There are special U-shaped tools that can get the dust off easily; otherwise, it’s best to use a cloth or duster to wipe both sides of the blades.

Refrigerator

About every four months, remember to clean the inside and outside of the refrigerator. Giving your fridge a deep clean means you’ll need to turn off the fridge and take all refrigerated items out before cleaning. Wipe down the inside with hot, soapy water, then use clean water to rinse off any soap.

For the exterior of the fridge, take a vacuum and remove the dust from the coils to prevent them from clogging.

Washing Machine and Dryer

We know what you’re thinking, “but my washing machine cleans clothes all day long! Why would I ever need to wash it? And the dryer only dries the clean clothes. It shouldn’t be dirty!”

At least, we know we think that way. But, believe it or not, washing machines and dryers need cleaning, too. You can simply use a washing machine cleaner and run a cleaning cycle. For dryers, it’s important to clean the lint trap and exhaust so the dryer doesn’t overheat.

Area Rugs

First of all, don't place area rugs in the washing machine. First, remove any dirt you can with a vacuum. Afterwards, take the rugs outside to apply a rug cleaner; let it sit, then rinse the rugs with a hose. This is an effective way to clean your rugs without damaging them.

The reason to clean most of these items comes from the fact they collect dirt and dust over time. We want to extend the lives of the important items our homes, and we know you do, too. Even if there are more items you most likely forgot to clean in your home than even this list indicates, give yourself a break. Clean what you can when you can; the deep cleaning days will occur when they need to.
