Whenever I browse with the intention of shopping for summer dresses, my checklist is pretty simple. Lightweight, easy silhouettes, and soft, breezy, draping fabric that feels amazing against the skin. Because to me, summer has a lot to do with the senses. It's when we indulge in the simpler pleasures of life, taking in the sun, wind, and water, and the sounds of our environment like they're a meal. It's when we seek to feel the best in our own skin, offering up, perhaps, a more vulnerable side to ourselves even in our quest to thrive and devour what summer has to offer.
When I'm in the right dress for the right moment, there is a sense of peace. I find this peace in the wind blowing through the ruffles of my hem, the freedom with which I'm able to move my legs, the casual comfort that comes from the simple act of putting my hand in a pocket. It is the clarity of knowing you are in the right piece, in the right place, in the right moment. And for anyone who believes that what you wear doesn't affect your state of mind - well, they just haven't found the right dress yet...
