TRAVEL: NOAH PURIFOY'S OUTDOOR ART MUSEUM

Last weekend, my mother and a family friend came down to visit us in Joshua Tree, which means we played tour guide. After so many months of us telling our families about how amazing it is here and all the things there are to do, it was so much fun to be able to finally show them around. One of the things we absolutely had to show them was Noah Purifoy's Outdoor Art Museum.

If you haven't been, I highly recommend it - it's a free outdoor exhibit that goes on for acres (7.5 to be exact) filled with found-object sculptures, created by the artist Noah Purifoy between 1989 and 2004. Part of his intention was to see how nature could play a part in the history of art, rejecting many of the ideas of institutionalized art by stepping away from anything 'precious,' and welcoming the natural decay brought on by the natural elements and time as part of the works themselves.

It's easy to get lost in the insane structures that fill the entire property, and I'm so lucky to have this art site so close to our new home. While we mostly spent our time enjoying the artwork (with a quick #ootd break) this time around, I'll have to pop over again soon to show you more of the work itself. Not to be missed if you're ever in the area!

xx,

Tienlyn
