HOME ON THE RANGE

Even though it snowed last week (ok we got a few flakes, but that's a huge deal for anyone living in California), and we just had what might have been our biggest wind storm ever, the rest of the winter has been surprisingly mild. Which means we've gotten to do a lot more outdoor exploring than one might usually do this time of year. I found this perfect Joshua Tree right off the end of our back piece of property that connects to the land our house is on - I'd never really explored back there as I've been so focused on the houses and the surrounding land. It's funny how something right under your nose can evade you for so long, simply due to the fact that you're not looking for it.

Since we've adopted Bucky, we've taken longer walks and have really started to learn our neighborhood. So when Stephanie and David came for the weekend, I made sure to show Stephanie the back lot and how gorgeous it is! (David got to see it via drone - still trying to figure out how to show you that bc it's amazing footage).

This year has not been what I expected it too - it's not calmer, it's not easier. But I do feel stronger - and the reasons for being busy (overall) are far better reasons than last year (minus the leaking pipe above our bed, coming within inches to filing a lawsuit against our foundation company, and a washing machine that just broke beyond repair - as of 10 minutes ago. Isn't life exciting?)

The desert continues to inspire, energize, shift perspective, and slap us around a little bit. And even during the roughest moments, I'm so happy we decided to move here and call this place home. Now off to lug 40 lbs of laundry to a laundromat and buy a new washing machine... any suggestions, by the way?

xx,

Tienlyn

THE CUL-DE-SAC EXPERIENCE: MODERNISM WEEK FALL PREVIEW 17

Lifestyle, DesignTienlyn JacobsonComment

What is it about peering into someone's life that is so appealing? Whatever that appeal is, it was magnified and multiplied at the Cul-De-Sac Experience at Modernism Week Fall Preview. After writing about it here, I was so thrilled that I was able to make it!

The tour itself did not disappoint, with William Krisel signature details around every corner, from the pop up, umbrella gable roofs and clerestory windows galore, 60's inspired wallpaper and furniture, breeze blocks of all kinds, and of course, those gorgeous, mint conditioned cars.

I accidentally ended up dressing the part to a degree, with my little 60's inspired shift from Caviar Status, round, white Pradas, and block-heeled Maryam Nassir Zadeh's - and I wasn't the only one either! With all the docents also dressed the part (and even a few models to boot), it really did feel like you were stepping back into another era. More to come from Modernism Week Fall Preview!

xx,

Tienlyn

That table clock, lamp, and Missoni-inspired chair is giving me life, not to mention the wallpaper is fully on my wishlist.

One thing I really walked away with was a fresh approach to looking at colors. This yellow based in all neutrals is definitely doing it for me.

Absolutely my dream kitchen. Clean, minimalist, but still colorful.
